Amazon Interview Process - Mid-level Software Engineer
I gave an Amazon interview in August 2023.
The first step was an online assessment with 2 coding questions. I don’t remember the first question, but the second one was related to sliding window. The difficulty was around easy to medium. I was able to solve both questions within the given time.
After around 2 weeks, I had my interviews.
Round 1 - DSA
The first round was DSA. The first question was related to balancing parentheses. I was able to solve it using a stack and explain the approach.
The second question was medium level. I don’t remember the exact question now, but I was not able to solve it completely. I tried a few approaches but couldn’t reach the solution.
Round 2 - LLD
The second round was mostly LLD and OOP.
The question was something similar to BookMyShow, where we had to design the system for movies, theatres, screens, seats and bookings.
We discussed the class diagram, how different classes will be related, aggregation/composition, encapsulation, OOP principles, etc.
This round went pretty well for me. I was able to explain the classes and relationships and answer most of the follow-up questions.
Round 3 - HLD
The third round was HLD. I was asked to design a marketplace where sellers can post listings and buyers can purchase them.
I started with the user flow and then discussed different components like listing, search, order, payment, notification, etc. We also discussed data flow and where asynchronous processing could be used.
However, I was not able to structure the overall system design properly and struggled with some of the follow-up questions. Overall, this round did not go well.
After all the rounds, I received an email saying that I was not selected.
Overall, the LLD round was the good for me, while I struggled more with the second DSA question and HLD round.
