Stripe Senior Fullstack in NYC: notification system LLD, a three-part REST API and map task, debugging and a React filter

Applied online for a fullstack software engineer role in NYC.

Internal Recruiter

First call was with an internal recruiter who essentially asked why I was leaving my current company and applying for Stripe.

Technical 1

The first round was a coding round LLD style question where I had to build a notification system, with the usual channels, preferences and retries. I wasn't that fast so I only got the first part done but it didn't seem to matter.

Technical 2

The next interview was a REST API/parsing question and was broken into three parts:

1. Given a JSON file write some code to extract the coordinate pairs and print the first 10

2. Write a program to make a request to get some data, save the binary response, and then open via command line or an image previewer

3. Draw the markers and paths from the JSON file onto the map

Essentially it combined a REST API question with a React question.

Technical 3

This was a debugging interview where they give you a repo in a language you want which they have forked and introduced a bug. Being good at using a debugger is super helpful. If you practice debugging exercises you will be in really good shape to do it.

Technical 4

Very simple React filtering question. There is a list of users on the screen and you have to add the ability to filter when you type. A classic React exercise.

Hiring Manager

Classic behavioural style questions, all covered in the playbook. This is what I was asked:

I got the offer! I prepared almost every day for 3 months so it was a big relief to finally get the offer.
