Recently applied for a CBC position. The interview had 3 rounds.

Round 1: Design interview (~1 hour)

We went over a problem statement with many parts.

Part 1: API design

Design a new API and add it to an existing system. The interviewer was interested in the assumptions I was making:

  • Authenticated vs unauthenticated API

  • Traffic volume

  • Idempotency

Part 2: Node.js app

Next we collaborated on a Node.js app and talked through its structure:

  • Middlewares

  • Controller flow

  • Service and repository layers

I had to write pseudocode for how the API was implemented.

Part 3: Testing

  • Edge cases for the API

  • How the API should be tested

Part 4: Code review

I was given a code snippet related to the problem statement above and asked to review it.

Round 2: Product lead (~45 minutes)

This felt like a typical behavioral round but more focused on the product side. Questions like:

  • How do you prioritize tasks?

  • What happens if you can't make the deadline?

  • Give me an example of a time when you had to disagree with someone.

Round 3: Manager / Agile lead

This felt more like selling the role. It was a casual conversation about what the team does and a few high-level questions about past work experience. No technical discussion.
