Mastercard Associate Java Developer in New York: iMocha assessment, Java and Spring Boot rounds, and Snakes and Ladders

I applied online for the Associate Java Developer role and a recruiter got back to me that week. I interviewed at Mastercard in New York in Sep 2026.

Interview

Interview process was quite straightforward. First was an iMocha assessment in which they asked MCQs related to SQL and Java theory, and some questions related to micro-services and system architecture, followed by some OOP style questions in Java and TypeScript, similar to the LLD questions in TechPrep.

Then in the first technical interview they asked more Java theory, Spring Boot fundamentals and React. I was asked some coding questions in Java involving the streaming API, similar to the Java coding questions on here.

Then there was the second technical round which actually felt easier than the first one. Here they focused a lot on resume, asking me to describe features I'd worked on in my last job. Again, there were more questions on Java and Spring Boot (they asked questions about how Spring JpaRepository works under the hood, and how does it map method name to DB column), some straightforward coding questions which were fine. One of the questions was Thrilling Teleporter, basically the Snakes and Ladders question here.

I would say be prepared for what you have mentioned in your resume and you need to know Java and Spring Boot fundamentals. Definitely recommend studying both sections here before you go in.
