Helpshift Backend Engineer interview: Min Stack and News Feed
I interviewed with Helpshift for a mid-level Backend Engineer role in April 2026. There were two technical rounds, followed by a call from HR.
Round 1: My project and Min Stack
We started with my current project. I walked through the architecture, explained which parts I was responsible for, and talked about the technical challenges I was working on.
They also asked about the difference between monolithic and microservices. The coding question was Min Stack: implement push, pop, top and retrieving the minimum element, with every operation taking constant time. There were follow-up questions about the choices I made in the solution and their trade-offs.
Round 2: News Feed system design
The second round was a News Feed system design question. We discussed the main components, how data would move through the system, and how the design would handle more users and feed requests.
The discussion also covered the trade-offs in the design. Compared with the first round's data-structure problem, this was about how the components of a larger system would work together.
The HR call
HR called after the second round and said my performance was borderline. They hadn't made a final decision at that point so the outcome was still pending when we spoke.
