AMD Mid-level Engineer: Memory Allocator LLD, WhatsApp design and two DP questions

Recruiter Screening

• This round was a behavioral one focused on my previous technical projects and motivations for joining the company. The interviewer was very friendly so I really enjoyed it.

Technical Interview 1

• This was a LLD interview where they asked me to implement a Memory Allocator. It was pretty tough and I was tight on time but the interviewer was very nice and helped by giving me hints when I got stuck.

Technical Interview 2

• Next was a HLD where they asked me to design WhatsApp. As part of the design they also asked what tech stack I would use and why. It was a fun interview but I feel if you hadn't prepared the system design before it could have been very tough.

Technical/Behavioral Interview 3

• This was the last round where I was asked two dynamic programming questions. The first was Climbing Stairs and the second was Coin Change. Glassdoor said they liked to ask DP questions so I had studied those and was able to finish them quickly. After that the hiring manager asked me some more behavioural questions around my strengths and weaknesses and also about some of the teams that I could join.

• I got the offer but declined because my current company outcompeted them on comp but they seemed like a cool company to work for.
