Tripadvisor Interview Process - Mid-level Frontend Engineer

There were 3 rounds in the application process:

• Short screening session with the recruiter about your background and salary expectation. There will be a short introduction about the product and the team you'll be working with

• Technical interview with a team manager. Here you must prepare to talk about your impact from your previous roles and what skills can you bring to the company. Do STAR or HERO style of answers here. Then you get a home assignment.

• The home assignment. An easy home assignment related to the product being introduced to you. For me it was to create a drag and drop, sortable table, with the ability to to delete and view the item. The key here is to show your design and decision on solving the problem (the assignment) in a README file. Make sure you know the trade-offs. For me, I went for a simple approach and I wrote down what I'll change if the data on the table increases. There might be some hints in the previous technical interview on what the team is focusing on, use that in your home assignment. For example, if the team is focusing on clean code, then you should prioritize that in your solution

• If you passed the home assignment, the next round is 3 hours onsite interviews with 3 different engineers at the company. Here, you need to prepare your technical knowledge as you're expecting to solve some minor quizzes given by the engineers. Depends on the location, you might get breaks or no breaks in between. The first quiz was a basic frontend code review. The second quiz was more like a discussion, if you were given a X scenario, what will you do. The second quiz was treated more like an open ending question. They care more about your approaches of solving the problem. The question I got was how I'll update the frontend to get the latest code. The third one was a surprised. I got tested on the ability to debug some backend bug tickets related to their current sprint.
