Disney Interview Process - Principal Fullstack Engineer
My interview process for the Principal Engineer role was thoroughly engaging and tested a broad spectrum of architectural and engineering competencies across three different rounds:
Round 1: Frontend Technology & Coding
This session focused heavily on ReactJS internals, advanced UI rendering mechanisms. I was asked how can I improve the performance of the UI rendering. He also asked me about browser engine. I was given a partially implemented coding problem where I completed the core business logic and successfully rendered data fetched from a centralized store.
Round 2: System Design
This was centered on high-scale architecture, I this round I was asked to design a robust distributed Rate Limiter capable of handling a massive load of 10 billion requests. I explained the trade-offs around horizontal scaling, low latency, and managing unexpected burst traffic seamlessly. He also asked where should I keep this rate limiter application.
Round 3: Low-Level Design (LLD)
This round tested component relationships and object-oriented modeling. The conversation featured an in-depth dive into the Token Bucket algorithm utilized in my design, detailing exact data structures stored in Redis, TTL strategies, and memory optimization ways.
Overall, it was a good experience, but I wasn't considered for next rounds.
